Studio Policies

In your lessons, you will be taught how to read music as well as given opportunities to express yourself through such skills as learning chords, music theory, ear-training and even improvisation. Learning how to make music can be one of the greatest joys in life! I'm so glad that we will have the opportunity to work together during your lessons, as you apply yourself to practice at home and grow as a musician for years to come!

Lesson Policy:
Schedule:
Lessons will take place on a weekly basis, unless there is a holiday or vacation which will be accounted for in advance. You (and your child) and I will agree upon a weekly day and time for a (30 minute) lesson and be consistent in having the scheduled instruction.

Make-ups:
If the student will be missing a lesson, there are excused and unexcused absences.
If you need to cancel a lesson it must be done as soon as there is a known conflict.

An excused absence would be for sickness or school event or field trip and we will plan to do a make-up lesson or add extra time to multiple lessons to make up for the missed instruction time.

If I have to cancel a lesson for any reason, I will do so as soon as the conflict is known. A make-up lesson will be scheduled. If you will be on vacation, please notify me at least 2 weeks in advance or the lesson(s) will be considered unexcused. Vacation leave can be discussed on a case by case basis.

Unexcused absences include forgetting, no-shows or last-minute cancellations. I have set aside your scheduled lesson time and while you may need to cancel, please do not expect a make-up lesson as you will be charged if you fail to attend. Consistency is very important in learning an instrument, so thank you for being serious about and committed to your weekly lesson.

Fees:
30 minute lessons are $45 each and will be paid on the first lesson of the month.
45 minute lessons are also available

Practice Expectation:
Daily, consistent practice is key to your musical progress! At each lesson the student will be given an assignment to practice on at home during the week. The student is expected to demonstrate at the following lesson that they have practiced the given assignment. Pacing will be taken into consideration student by student. If you feel that your student needs to be more challenged, please let me know and I will give more pieces or sections to work on. During a 7- day week, students should practice at least 5 days. This is a general/minimum practice requirement.

Ages:
6-8: 15 minutes a day
9-10: 20 minutes a day
11-12: 30 minutes a day
Teens: 45-60 minutes a day
Adults: 30+ minutes a day

Practice Tip: For difficult passages in the music, please stop and isolate and work on the challenging parts several times before moving on. It is counterproductive to play only the parts you know well and then struggle through the hard spots! Isolating and working on the difficult parts, then re-inserting them into the piece, will work some "magic" into your playing/singing! Plus, you'll probably learn the whole song faster!
